Data georeferencing and geo-database

A geodatabase is an essenti al data format used for editi ng and data management in the oil and gas industry, using numerous geographic informati on system (GIS) fi le formats. It is the physical store of geographic informati on such as licenses, fi elds, well data, prospects, leads, seismic surveys, surface faciliti es, environmental protected area, etc.

A GIS database allows providing a comprehensive informati on model for representi ng and managing geographic informati on holding feature classes, raster datasets, and att ributes.

We frequently provide following services

  • Building and managing a GIS database for an asset management by starti ng from zero by collecti ng all the useful data (maps, tables, pictures, shapefi les, rasters).
  • Georeferencing and digiti zing existi ng old maps (paper maps,
    PDF, jpg pictures) to create GIS layers (shapefi les and rasters) that can be easily modifi ed, analyzed and linked into all GIS systems and/or integrated into seismic interpretati on projects (culture layers). once georeferenced and sorted, all data and maps can be easily printed suiti ng company’s template (logo) and frequently requested as support in creati ng company’s portfolio.
  • Creati ng layers (wells, prospect and fi eld polygons, licenses, facilities) you can easily visualize and/or modify in arcgis explorer® or google Earth®, parti cularly useful for explorati on geology (play maps).
  • Mapping/presentati on of any kind of georeferenced layers and
    data using professional gis format and legends.

Digitizing, mapping

Detailed mapping and interpretation of GIS data (layers) are very often used in exploration geology or during Due Diligence processes to make fast and better exploration and business decisions.

  • Overlaying several geological and geographical layers to constrain an area of interest (“play maps”) reducing risk exposures and highlighting or confirming areas of high prospectivity
  • Calculating surfaces for seismic planning, fields or prospects area for volumes’ evaluation and/or distances to closest facilities for economic criteria
  • Gridding (using numerous gridding algorithms) and contouring of reservoir properties (depth, thickness, porosity or saturation maps)
  • Analyzing using spatial tools (ArcMap®) and buffering to know maximal or minimal distance of a point of interest (wells, facilities, factories)
  • Structural and or environmental analysis based on high resolution satellite images

Broad data review, data sorting and files classification, update on ops status, seismic acquisition follow-up, drilling operation follow-up, TCM follow-up, etc. are managed in-house with remote access or on-site.

GPCI provides a private secured online server exclusively dedicated to your needs, remotely accessible and searchable.

NB : when not directly involved in the interpretation work, our petrophysical and geophysical staff can load technical data to applications like Interactive Petrophysics (IP), Powerlog, Geolog, Kingdom, Petrel, SeisEarth (Paradigm) and SKUA to guarantee your data quality.

When required, specific data improvement are proposed like :

  • Seismic data extraction and storage from Standard Seismic Archive Tapes (IBM 3592 JJ,JR,JA,JW,JB,JX cartridges)
  • 2D seismic data mis tie minimisation (typically when loading several different 2D surveys)
  • Reformatted SEGYs
  • 2D and/or 3D seismic surveys merging and reformatting (including rebinning and phase-matching)
  • Petrophysical and seismic project conversion
